TV channels changing on their own. What is cause?
If I'm watching TV (HD, no cable or satellite; live in NYC and get decent reception with [very good, very expensive] HD antenna), sometimes the channels will roll on me. Like I'm watching channel 2, but will walk away and come back & channel 4 will be on, or I will be sitting there and the channels will just roll up to 58, etc. I'm not touching the remote. The cat certainly isn't sitting on it. So what's happening here.
Asked this question yesterday and got wise guy response, but am curious what could be causing it. An electronic device in a neighbor's place? A WALL-PIERCING death ray? Jeez. It's a brand new phenomenon, only 2 days old after over 2 years in this apt, and no recent neighbor changes.

Most remotes are IR based meaning they have to have a clear line of site to your TV to cause it to change channels. That will not happen through a wall but could occur through a window. Certainly NYC has the density of people where I suppose it is possible that someone with a line of site view through one of your windows could accidentally (or on purpose) be messing with you if they happened to have the same remote. An easy experiment to see if this is possible is just to close the blinds on any possible windows and see if this happens again.
There are RF based remotes which do not need a line of site. However, I really don't know of any just plain off the shelf TVs which have that. I have a Logitech Harmony RF remote, as an example but to interface the remote to the equipment it controls requires its companion RF receiver to be plugged into the equipment and you have mentioned nothing like this, so I will guess this isn't applicable to you.
