How much is my piano worth?
I just got this piano and I need to know how much it is worth for insurance purposes and such. It is a 1926 Cable Company Piano-Upright. I know it plays nicely but the appearance needs TLC, I don't know how long since its been tuned but we picked it up 30 miles away and it still sounds alright.
Pianos this old that have not been rebuilt or refurbished can vary from being barely usable as an instrument to being a total wreck. This type of piano would not have enough resale value to warrant a rebuild for someone in the trade. Questions that need to be answered by having a piano tech look at it are...Sound board, ribs and bridge being solid without cracks, separation or resulting buzzing noises, all keys working freely, tuning pins being tight enough to keep in tune, pin block being solid and fully attached, rusty or false beating wires and strings, worn hammers, broken/misaligned action parts. These are just a few of the things a tech would look at and it would be impossible to give you a quote without looking at it first hand
